How to use torrents

torrentA 'Torrent' is a form of file sharing (like rapid share) in which users download and share files between each other. It is a person-to-person sharing.

This post will guide you in using torrents.
Say you want  to download a game "need for speed most wanted". All you have to do is follow these steps :

1. Go to google.com. In the search box, type what you want to search for and just suffix the word "torrents" with the typed content for search (For eg., To search for this game, you just have to type "need for speed most wanted torrents".)Now, you will get a list of all the sites with this torrent. You can select any of them. Preference can be given to well-known torrent sites like thepiratebay , isohunt etc.

2. Click on the link to download the torrent file. You will get an option saying "click here to download this torrent". Now click on it and download it. This hardly takes 5 to 10 seconds.

3. To open this file and start downloading, you will need a torrent software like bit torrent, utorrent, lime wire etc.

I prefer 'utorrent' as it is very light on the system, fast and has a very simple interface. If you want a great looking client, then go for Vuze.

http://www.utorrent.com/

http://www.vuze.com/

Download and install any of them.

4. Now open the 'utorrent'( or any torrent s/w you are using) by double-clicking on it. You can now see it on your task bar. Now, open it from there.
In the uTorrent window, click on file->add torrent->select the file which you have already downloaded. Don't do any changes. Just proceed.

5. That's it. You are finally DOWNLOADING IT. Just wait and it will start downloading in some time. You can also see the speed at which it is being downloaded and uploaded.

6. Games and movies are big files. If,at any time you would like to pause the download, just right click on the file you are downloading, and select 'pause'. Just select 'start' in a similar way to resume.

Some General terms:
 -->Torrents are  p2p  (i.e., person 2 person)

-->When you download something, it means that at the same time you are also uploading it for some one else.

-->When you are uploading (when you have a partial file with you), you are called a "leecher".

-->If you are uploading when you have the complete file, then you are called a "seeder".

-->"seeders" + "leechers" are called "peers".

-->If a file has more number of peers, then it downloads quickly as compared to the ones with less no. of peers.

-->If "peers=0", no one has uploaded it, hence you cannot download it.

Now, when downloading is done, the status shows 'seeding'.

Seeding is good. If you take something, its good to give something in return :) But, in case if you don't want to seed any further, select the torrent and  press 'delete' button and confirm delete.

Hope these steps help you!

Happy downloading :)
